Mercy Health System (Delaware Valley)
Mercy Health System of Southeastern Pennsylvania is a non-profit health care provider with over 51 facilities in 5 counties surrounding Philadelphia, PA (Bucks County, Chester County, Delaware County, Montgomery County and Philadelphia County) and a small portion of Delaware.
== History ==
Mercy Health System was founded by the Sisters of Mercy more than 90 years ago in Philadelphia. The Sisters of Mercy were founded in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland by Catherine McAuley, an heiress who used her inheritance to serve the poor, especially women and children. In Catherine’s House of Mercy, Sisters of Mercy cared for the poor, sick and uneducated. McAuley founded 12 Mercy convents in Ireland and two in England. Twenty years after McAuley died in 1841, the Sisters of Mercy relocated to Philadelphia where they developed schools and visited the sick. In 1918, Misericordia Hospital, now Mercy Philadelphia Hospital, was founded by the Sisters of Mercy.
Philadelphia is the home of the Mid-Atlantic Community of the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters of Mercy, which sponsors Mercy Health System along with Hope Ministries, has reached over 10,000 members worldwide.
The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas sponsor Mercy Health System, including four acute care hospitals, three long-term care facilities, ambulatory care centers and three wellness centers, one of the largest health care providers in the Philadelphia area.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=https://www.mercyhealth.org/about/history/ )〕
